Health Examination of Mice or Rats

The Committee carries out microbiological examination of mice and rats in the campus 3 times a year. These examinations are serological test. If you occupy 3 racks with mice or rats, you have to submit a serum sample from each of the 3 racks. All groups using mice or rats have to submit serum (sera) to our facility. The method of serum preparation is described below.

Method of serum preparation

Take approximately 0.4 ml of blood from a mouse or rat, and then centrifuge it at 2,000 rpm for 5-10min. If you use 1.5 ml eppendorf tube, centrifuge it at 10,000 rpm for 1-3min.
　Take 0.15 ml of the supernatant carefully into eppendorf tube and then add 1.35 ml buffer solution containing 0.1 % azide and 0.85 % NaCl. These samples can be stored at room temperature.
