We provide animal models of human diseases

1) Wilson's disease : LEC rat and LEA rat
LEC rat is the real animal model of human Wilson's disease, because there is a deletion for ATP binding region of ATP7B gene which is same as the deletion type of human Wilson's disease. LEA rat is a control line of LEC rat.

LEC rat develops fibrosis several months after jaundice by high concentration (accumulation) of copper in the liver and then hepatocellular carcinoma at the age of 15 to 18 months.

2) Panel of congenic rats for diabetogenic QTLs
Fourteen QTLs were separately introgressed into F344 rats. Now, we have 14 single congenics for Nidd1 through Nidd14 loci.
We have also Nidd1&2, Nidd2&10 double congenics which shows epistatic effect.
We also produce obesity congenic in F344 background in order to make double congenic crossing by Nidd congenic. So we can investigate which Nidd gene would be affected in obesity condition.
